Back in 1998, my father had enough of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and decided to move back to Pakistan but before we bid Middle-East good bye for good, dad who was an avid traveler decided to tour all the middle-east right up to Istanbul.
It was a great memorable trip. Film pictures of that day are hidden somewhere but I came about this video of Coldplay's Atlas depicting Syria then and now.
One of the best experiences with people were in Syria and Turkey as well. Some genuine people who minded their own business.
Yes, in both these places, Pakistanis are loved and respected for some reason, but being there, I understood that they loved everyone who came to them.
The bazaar you see in this video is a really rushed and fast place and we were there and when we were shopping there, two shopkeepers learnt somehow that we were Pakistani tourists and they just erased their bargaining limits and insisted on as presents but mum refused so a meager amount was paid.
Being the predicament situation Pakistan is in itself, I can't comment on the security situation as my own yard is full of mullahs hell bent on isolating the religion and the country but atleast I am assured that my country has capable security forces but what do you do when miscreants are within your congregation and cannot be told apart?
You talk to them rather go out on war with them which paralyzes the entire country, you talk to them, you isolate and identify them, and then do what you did in Swat (Malala's hometown).
That's the curse of gorilla warfare. It is unfortunate Syria didn't have time for that and thanks to Indo-Pak relations, both (India and Pakistan) have a lot of unnecessary military equipment and expertise when our children aren't able to go school.
And that is why Pakistanis have so much respect in Syria because we did save their ass sometime against Gulf War but so we did with a lot more Arab countries.
But that's for money, arch rivals and mullahs are just a tiny part of military our development, in Mogadishu, during those unfortunate days, Pakistan armed forces were other major forces deployed who came for their rescue later on. But United Nations is good money, I heard but can't remember, that Pakistan deploys a lot of its helicopters with UN for peace missions because it is not just good but awesome money.
US and its allies have given a lot in Afghanistan, but US was seeking old fashioned revenge and that's what Pakistan was trying to make NATO understand, you have to talk to them to isolate and kill them.
Today, Mullah's are so isolated that apart from the hundreds they breed to their ideology, no one supports them and a huge backlash in terms of PR and shit was up as we went to table with Taliban saying American military masters have gone to the table talks so beggars can't be choosers and hence how can a puppet state Pakistan can defy the invitation.
Now, collateral damage doesn't matter. My dad, quite a firm man hold firms to the thought of carpet bombing North Waziristan and a curfew of weeks in Karachi to rid us of this menace called Taliban. And Pakistanis would support and feed the hungry as they always have, but nothing will happen until they are isolated and have come down from their caves or buildings.
TL;DR: What a fucked up world we live in. So much military prowess only scares the innocent majority and the miscreants roam fearless.

I understand that you live through dangerous times in a risky place, and I feel ashamed of having only to worry about my future economic wellness.

Should be proud in fact, for your ancestors have fought for you that you are at a point only having to worry about economic wellness, some countries are coming to that point while some are just a product of corruption. So strive.
I just got known to the threat issued by Taliban to one of the World's beautifully rich cultures known as Kalash people of Chitral Valley and I wrote this in rage and disappointment over how such developed military arsenals have to have talks with these goons, then God be with Syria.
Friend met this Kalash girl. They are educated people who just mind their own business.

I know. Too bad that they cannot rule.
